WBO Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe has disclosed to The Finder he will be defending his title in August this year against a yet to be announced opponent.
Isaac Dogboe has signed a one-year deal with Top Rank Boxing Promotion and his promotion is looking for him to defend his title in August
“Top Rank is looking for me to defend my title in August.”
When further questioned, he also disclosed his intention to unify the super bantamweight division, naming WBC champion Rey Vargas as a future opponent.
“After defending my title, I’m looking for a unification match,” he said.
“I’m most definitely going to fight Rey Vargas in the future. It’s a unification fight and I’m looking forward to unifying the titles.”
A week ago, Dogboe beat Jessie Magdaleno via TKO in the 11th round to become Ghana’s youngest ever boxing champion at the age of 23
Responding to rumours of a potential rematch with Magdaleno, Dogboe told Finder Sports that he has not ruled out the possibility.
“Whatever happens I’m down. We never back down to a fight. Team Dogboe is always ready.”
On Saturday, Dogboe picked two awards as Boxer of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year at the 43rd Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards.
At the ceremony, Dogboe announced that he is looking forward to “putting Ghana back on the boxing map,” and said, “Ghana boxing is back to its old glory days.”
