At least thirteen persons have been confirmed dead after a ford transit bus travelling from Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region collided with a cargo truck.
The accident happened at about 1:00am on Monday dawn.
Reporting the incident on ‘Omanbapa’ morning show with Kwabena Ampratwum, SilverNews Kwabena Wireko who was at Akwatiakrom township said, “the ford bus with registration number AS 7257-16 with 15 passenger capacity had 14 persons on board and travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi early Monday morning”.
“The bus was said to have veered off its lane after the driver only named as, Yeboah was drowsy and collided head on with an empty cargo truck ( GR 2624-N) at Akwatiakrom, a town in Mankranso”.
The ford bus transit driver is said to have left the Sunyani bus terminal at about 11:30 pm.
“Only one person out of the 14 passengers in the Ford bus survived and is currently on admission at the Bechem Government Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region”.
“All the other 13 passengers; made up of 12 males and one female are dead”
“For about 3 hours, first responders from Akwatiakrom could not remove the dead bodies. It took the Fire Service personnel from Bechem to cut open the mangled ford bus” he reported.
According to our correspondent, 11 dead bodies have been transported to Mankraso Mortuary and 2 others to the Bechem government hospital.
The midnight incident happened few kilometers from the spot where dancehall artist Ebony lost her life.
