A light pole at Banko, in the Sekyere Kumawu district of Ashanti Region is gradually becoming a death trap to residents.

The base of the pole, located at the outskirt of the town has been over exposed as a result of continuous rainfall and erosion which has eaten away the soil covering it.

Some of the residents who spoke to Silver FM's Akwadaa Nyame fear an imminent collapse of the pole which could land on passer-bys.

‘It wasn’t so dangerous initially, when it was completely buried in the soil, it was covered with soil until erosion exposed it. We fear for the lives of the kids and the houses around,’ they bemoaned.

They appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to as a matter of urgency work on the pole to avoid the untoward.

‘It would be better if government would give us new light poles. It is only government who can help us; there is nothing we can do about it. We value our lives and that of our children too,’ they appealed.

The Assembly member of the area, Seth Boampong said that all efforts to get ECG to rectify the situation have proven futile.
