The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday begun a joint exercise to relocate traders occupying pavements and unauthorized places to Race Course market in Kumasi.
An eviction notice served by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council calling for vacation of such places by Monday was also endorsed by the Manhyia Palace.
The movement of traders from some parts of Adum, Kejetia , Pampaso and the Kumasi Zoo area has made some traders distressed and asked the government to intervene since they had no spaces to occupy at the new Race Course Market.
The exercise precedes the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa Afua Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
The Public Relations Officer for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Mr Godwin Kuma Nyame speaking on SilverNews shared some challenges they faced during the evacuation exercise.
"We faced numerous challenges which we had to involve the security traders. Some traders came here in the morning on their own to occupy the spaces instead of going through our laid down procedures by the assembly".
" The leadership had wanted to do the partitions today so that the place would be set for allocation tomorrow but the traders would not allow a smooth relocation exercise."
He urged calm and that all the traders would be successfully relocated since the assembly had enough space to relocate all traders at the new Race Course markets .
