Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu known by his stage name 'Burna Boy' has been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command for alleged involvement in the robbery attack of fellow singer, Mr. 2kay at Eko Hotel.
Three of the four suspects arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly robbing an artiste, Abiye Jumbo, aka Mr. 2Kay, have owned up to the crime.
The suspects confessed that they carried out the operation on the orders of Mr. 2Kay’s colleague, Burna Boy.
The suspects are Balogun Ademola, Obina Igwe, Tunmise Omotore and Joel Kantiok, who claimed to be Burna Boy’s road manager.
The state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Monday, said the police tracked down the suspects through footage of Closed Circuit Television cameras installed in the hotel.
Imohimi, who gave a blow-by-blow account of the attack, said Burna Boy paid the gang a sum of N100,000 “to teach Mr. 2Kay a lesson.”
Abinye David Jumbo, popularly known as Mr. 2Kay was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room , Eko Hotel and Suites on Sunday, October 22, 2017 after performing in the 2face’s ‘Buckwyld N Breathless’ concert held in the facility.
The artist was said to have been brutalized by the robbers and threatened to be killed if he did not corporate with them.
Burna Boy’s management, Spaceship Entertainment has said that the musician has honoured police invitation and that he is not wanted but the Lagos State Police Command has refuted the claims saying, ‘Burna Boy’ was yet to report himself to the police and that he is still on the run.
The command in a statement, signed by ASP Olarinde Famous-cole, Police public relations officer, said that only Burna Boy’s father, one Samuel Ogulu visited the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in-charge of the case with the promise to bring Burna Boy before the police.
